I was walking by a fraternity
I was walking by a fraternity on the way to my building, at 1:40 in the morning, leaving behind a silly pile of other people sitting on picnic tables, chewing on a clothespin. They were kissing in the echo tunnel, they were about to fall out of a tree, they were showing scars and tattoos of dead friends and telling their struggle stories, they were throwing receivers out the window, they are taller than me, they got caught in the cemetery. And if you had seen the moon taking a piss on me on that walk, and shining so beautifully, so brightly, and so distantly that children weep at the miles, you would have been just as shocked as I was to hear

It's become a nightly ritual to stay awake until an absurd hour doing nothing at all. And inevitably, just as my thoughts begin to slip the firm guidance of a waking guardian, I suddenly find myself sitting in my bed, holding a book or a stringed instrument, staring out the window across the lawn, usually listening to nothing. And is then that I feel the heaviness of my life and I realize that in this bizarre world where children live in a perpetuate state of summer camp to ease the difficulties in congregating to discuss books, I am alone in a way that terrifies me to sleep.
