Sea Witch
By Nabooru

Storming and surging as the black sea starts burning,
The Sea Witch is rising from her horror-filled cave.
Screaming and chanting as the dark tides start churning.
The Sea Witch is riding upon her deathly bound waves.

The winds are troubled and the oceans turn fierce,
a foul voice is calling, my heart it has pierced!
It sings only of torment, of pain and cold death,
what beast can be coming? It has chilled my own breath!

Pale echoes of ghost-ships now ride on the sea;
lost sailors and captains yearning to be free.
Their anguish is mounting, the tempest grows strong,
there's no hope for morning, for the night lingers on.

This is my entry for a contest on another site. The idea is to take the above poem, and turn it into a piece of visual art. Here's my rendition. I spent about 5 days on this, working on an off. Probably about 60 layers. Approximately 25MB .psd.
Lots of love. Blood. Sweat. Tears. But not literally. That's just silly.

I chose this particular pose because of the position of her hands. According to sailor superstition, sea birds carry the souls of dead sailors. Her hands represent all of the sailors who died upon them... Her beauty is radiant... and sailors feel drawn to her, not knowing the demise that would await them...

Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful,
we must carry it with us,
or we find it not.

Really nice job. The layering and techniques used are executed very nicely and I like seeing what they were, from the stock and how you made it your own. That poem is a neat addition... I love it when people relate art with other mediums of art :)

Thank you! :D
