oh okay, I see but in German you can also say 'sie ist eine Freundin' which means you're good friends. If you're a couple it would be'sie ist meine Freundin' but I know what you mean.

btw this is your last year of high school, right? how many Universities do you apply to and how did you choose the college you'd like to attend? Because I'm about to leave to school but I dont know what to do after my final examinations

I applied so far to 4, and am finishing one more and might apply to a few others. The ones I applied to are mostly smaller liberal arts schools with strong language programs. Searching for college over here starts pretty early, I started looking seriously at different colleges in the first half of my 3rd year of school. I am still waiting to hear back from a few of the schools, so I'm not sure where I will be going yet...

I'm also considering taking a year off before I start college. The schools that I'm applying to have deferred admission which means I can say "hey, I have some stuff I want to do before I go to college, can I attend in the fall of 2010 instead of 2009?"
It's a pretty uncommon thing in America to do, at least where I'm from, but I think its a good idea for me. I want to keep working for a while, make more art, travel to visit all my new European friends, visit some people here in the States, etc.

My two good friends from Slovakia don't have any idea what they're doing either, but they're only going to have an American diploma. Both are considering doing another year of school before applying to college.


Anyway, what I've come to learn through years of college shit is that nothing is worth it if it makes you worry too much.

well, that's a a bit more complicaded. It depends on the situation.. Imagine having to introduce your best friends to your parents (for whatever reason) if you say 'er ist mein freund' or 'das ist mein Freund (insert name here)' it would definitely mean that you are a couple. But just like in English you would probably say 'this is (name).. he's a good friend of mine'
Imagine your friend is in trouble and you talk about his problems with a common friend who doesnt want to help him. It would be completely normal to say: 'Du musst ihm helfen, er ist dein Freund' it really depends on the specific situation. You probably need to spend some time in Germany to understand that just like I need some outside learning in America/England.
Taking a year off sounds nice but I dont want to waste time doing something not necessary while my friends are doing something prductive every day. do you want to studay in America or Germany?

Both. I'll probably be attending an American college at first, but I plan on spending as much time as possible studying abroad, and hope to live in Europe later. If I decide to go to graduate school, definitely in Europe.

I'm going to be making a very clear schedule and plan of what I want to do while on the year off, including traveling as much as possible, working (while traveling maybe) and making art, and continuing to learn and research on my own, which I do anyway.

I'm also considering doing a structured program through a company to help arrange details. Ideally, I'd be able to live in Germany and study art.
